Governer's State Employee Mentoring Program

Who is eligible to volunteer?
Volunteers must be 18-years-old and be willing to undergo a background check. You must be employed full-time in a permanent position with the State of Connecticut. You must have worked at least one full calendar year. If you are a union member, your union must have agreed to participate in the program.

What are the benefits?
You get the chance to see your goodness and accumulated wisdom lift up a child with strong potential and limited opportunities. You will also receive one week's paid vacation after one year as a Big Brother or Big Sister. You will also have more fun than you can imagine.

How do I volunteer?
Get in touch with us via telephone or e-mail. We'll answer any questions you might have and send you out an information packet complete with application materials. Once you get the application back to us you're well on your way to becoming a program participant.

Why join the program?
There are many reasons. For example, you might want to do your part to help the Governor fulfill his promise to disadvantaged youth. Or, you might want to take the opportunity of getting an extra week's paid vacation. But, if you're like the majority of Connecticut state workers currently mentoring youngsters through Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, you simply want to help a child in difficult circumstances make his or her dream a reality.
