Giving to Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters

Your financial support directly affects the mentoring services that we provide to more than 2,000 Connecticut at-risk children and youth in low-income and disadvantaged home situations.  There is always a waiting list of children, usually from single-parent families, that desire and would benefit from a qualified, adult volunteer mentor.

Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters is a 501(c)3, non-profit agency recognized by the IRS and the State of CT.  All charitable gifts made to Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Stock or Bond Transfers

Gifts of stocks and bonds that have appreciated make effective charitable donations with benefits for both the agency and the donor.  Capital gains taxes can be avoided when an appreciated property is given outright to a tax-exempt, non-profit organization like Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters.  This can be a significant tax advantage to the donor.

Note:  Gifts of appreciated stock or bonds should be transferred to a charity, BEFORE they are sold for maximum tax deduction and savings on capital gains.  Contact the Development Office for additional information and transfer procedures.
