Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters improves the lives of young people and enables them to become productive, responsible adults by creating one-to-one mentoring relationships between those at-risk young people and qualified adult volunteers. The organization has a tradition of fostering the highest quality mentoring relationships between children from single-parent homes and professionally-screened and supervised adult volunteers. Through this process, we give children and society greater hope. Hence our credo and call to action: Making a Big Difference, One Child at a Time.
Our History at a Glance
Started in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is the oldest one-to-one youth service organization in the country. It's been praised by a broad range of leaders at national and local levels. For example, Gen. Colin Powell has said that Big Brothers Big Sisters is "the most important program we have within the mentoring goal of America's Promise." Currently, there are over 500 Big Brother Big Sister affiliate agencies throughout the United States.
Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, founded in 1966, is proud to be one of the top ten agencies in Big Brothers Big Sisters of America nationwide affiliate chain. Nutmeg's main office is located in Hartford. Our branch offices are conveniently located in Tolland, Wallingford and Waterbury. We service 110 cities and towns in Hartford, Tolland, Windham, Middlesex, Litchfield and upper New Haven counties.
